Kelly Middle School Reviews
Quality Score: 3 Post Date:2009-08-25
“I am now sending one more child on her closing journey threw Kelly with the start of 8th grade. This is about,9 years worth of Kelly education, I have seen some fantastic teachers leave along with their programs. In all schools there are things that need to be changed ,Kelly is no exception, But get real its all in the money. Are meep scores are not where they should be. That is my concern. And by they way my kid has had purple hair and carried a 4.0. Its not in the dress code.” This review was posted by a parent.

“I went to Kelly for 6th ,7th and 8th . I go to the high school this year.this school is a very high learning plan and never gives up on the teens.. The teachers love and care for each one..And Mr.Hamden is so sweet..And most think that kids get in fights well they do but not as much as the high school.” This review was posted by a student.

“I went to Kelly Middle School for my 6th and 7th grade. All the teachers are nice but most of the students are not! But i have to say that Mr.Hamden is a great principal, and was always there when i needed to talk to him” This review was posted by a student.

“My child attends Kelly Middle School currently I am very happy with Mr. Hamden and his staff and have found that many of the negative statements are not true. The biggest problem I see is parent involvement and wonder if the parents that are complaining are the parents that do not get involved in their children's education. Teachers and principals can only do so much- parents need to work with their children too and be involved in their educational success and take the part of the blame for the failures. The academics at Kelly are in line with my nieces and nephews that attend South Lake and Fraser schools. And his football team was undefeated. Kudo's to you!” This review was posted by a parent.

“My child has attended Kelly for 6th and 7th grade and this is her last year there. I have been very happy with her teachers and she has done well there. I do not know how the curriculum measures up with other schools. I wish the district had more money to put into the athletic department. I was not happy with her 7th grade coach, but we will see what happens this year. I think I like Mr. Stevenson, the 8th grade girls basketball coach.” This review was posted by a parent.

“Two of my daughters have attended Kelly Middle School, they have both gotten phenominal grades in the two years they attended there. Mr.Hamden is very kind and treats all his students equally and as if they were his own children. He cares about their saftey and well being. There are many diverse teachers there, and they are all very kind. In fact, my daughter has brought home reports about her african american substitute, and her asian teacher. I would very strongly reccomend this school to anyone who lives in the Eastpointe area and wants their child to attend a great public Jr. highschool.” This review was posted by a parent.

“Let's start with the administaration the principal (Mr. Hamden) is a very nice man and stays in his office and keeps to himself. Kelly is ran by the Assistant Principal and often the students. The administration is very unfair in disciplining and dress codes. This being a diverse school, obviously skin colors plays an important role of the entire staff! Their are no diverse staff employed at Kelly. The teachers care more about pay than the education being taught. I would not reccomend Kelly to anyone with an intellagent child. You may as well send your child to a Detroit Public School! The dress code stated in the guide is appropriate but do they follow they guideline? No! Kids attend school with outrageous colored hair and nails (boys and girls). Parking is a jam everyday!” This review was posted by a parent.

“My daughter has attended Kelly for 2 years - the teachers have zero effect in disciplining. The students are out of control. I'm trying desperately to get her out ASAP. If you are looking for a school to put your well behaved, intelligent child in - this is not the school for you.” This review was posted by a parent.

“My daughter has went to this school in 7th grade. The principal is well dedicated to his job but the students are out of control I would not recommand this school to anyone their meap scores are felling the kids are behind in 3/4 of their subjects. The kids are not discipined to do any thing right.” This review was posted by a student.

“My daughter attended Kelly all 3 years and loved it. I met the Principal (Mr. Hamden) several times at events and he seemed very well liked and respected by all the students. All of the teachers were very dedicated to their students and were willing to work with them when they were struggling on something. The sports program there is also something to be proud of. The coaches really care about team spirit and it shows!” This review was posted by a parent.
